Power Outage Affects Metro Line B in Mexico City

Passengers on Metro Line B experienced a power outage on May 8, 2025, during system inspections. Services were disrupted, causing delays as the metro addressed ongoing issues for the second consecutive day.

Users of the Metro in Mexico City reported a blackout on Line B late Thursday, May 8, in the facilities, which reportedly occurred due to electrical system inspections of the service.

One user said they were left without power inside the train between Morelos and San Lázaro stations, which correspond to lines 4 and 1 respectively, to which the Metro said everything was due to the inspections. As of 6:30 PM, continuous train service is expected, after the inspections are completed. For the second consecutive day, Line B of the Metro is experiencing service failures during peak hours.

Line B of the Metro is one of the two lines that have sections of three types: elevated, underground, and at street level, and at different points along its route, which goes from Ciudad Azteca to Buenavista, the moment of the blackout was observed, although it was not confirmed if it was widespread. Another area where the blackout was registered was in the street-level section, which goes from Deportivo Oceanía to Ciudad Azteca and where access in both directions is through the same hallway.

The Metro of Mexico City called for 'following the instructions of the System staff, allowing doors to close freely and descending the carriage before entering'.

Line B of the Metro suspended its service since the afternoon of May 7 between Villa de Aragón and Oceanía stations due to the failures that the transport system was presenting. The problem was centered on the tracks, and after analyzing the root cause of the issue, it was determined that the stations would be closed for the entire day and that operations would resume on Thursday.
